Southern Spain combines European transport infrastructure with substantial totality. Tarifa is about 4:38, Barbate about 4:15 and Ceuta about 4:48 among key Spanish references. Spain is attractive to travellers who prioritise straightforward access, healthcare, road infrastructure and a wide accommodation market.
Morocco: close to Europe with longer central-path duration
Northern Morocco lies immediately across the Strait and the central eclipse path offers very long totality. Travellers should still plan border requirements, ferry or flight capacity, local transport, insurance and the exact observation coordinate.
Algeria: approaching six minutes
Along the central path through Algeria, duration increases substantially as the shadow travels east. The astronomical reward is large, but expedition planning becomes more demanding: heat, long overland distances, permits, communications, medical support and local expertise matter.
Egypt: close to the worldwide maximum
The path near Luxor and the Nile Valley lies close to the eclipse’s maximum duration, around 6 minutes 22–23 seconds. It is an extraordinary astronomical target, but August heat is severe and should be treated as a central safety and logistics issue rather than a footnote.
There is no universal winner
Spain can be the strongest all-round choice for ease of access; Morocco offers proximity plus longer duration; Algeria suits well-prepared expeditions; Egypt is the destination for observers prioritising maximum totality. Weather forecasts close to the event may still change the final decision.
