For a morning eclipse, accommodation is part of the observing strategy. The strongest base is usually one that places you inside totality on the night of 1 August, so you do not depend on long-distance travel the next morning.
Tarifa and Barbate
Both offer more than four minutes of totality. Tarifa has the duration advantage; Barbate adds the planned Eclipse Village option for travellers who want a vehicle-based overnight base.
Cádiz city
Cádiz offers urban hotels, apartments and services, with about 2:54 of totality. It may suit travellers who prefer a city environment and do not want to depend entirely on a vehicle once they arrive.
Western Costa del Sol
Marbella and Estepona combine substantial accommodation capacity with longer totality than Málaga city. They can also be practical for international arrivals using Málaga Airport, provided the transfer is completed before eclipse morning.
Campervan and motorhome stays
Do not confuse parking with authorised overnight use. Secure a legal site and check vehicle length, sanitation, access times and any restrictions on awnings, generators or outdoor equipment.
Book the base, keep the weather plan flexible
Accommodation can be fixed well in advance while the final observation coordinate remains flexible. A base with several reachable sites can be more resilient than a single isolated location with no cloud backup.
