Málaga city is inside the 2027 path of totality, but relatively close to its northern side. Current IGN/OAN municipal data give totality from about 10:48:12 to 10:50:01, around 1 minute 49 seconds.
Move west for longer totality
The duration rises markedly along the western Costa del Sol. Mijas is about 2 minutes 50 seconds, Marbella about 3 minutes 17 seconds, Estepona about 3 minutes 37 seconds and Manilva about 3 minutes 47 seconds.
Why Málaga can still be a strong choice
International airport capacity, high-speed rail, extensive accommodation and healthcare infrastructure are major advantages. For travellers coming from abroad or from northern Spain, those may outweigh the shorter eclipse duration.
Do not assume you can drive west on eclipse morning
A plan that depends on a last-minute motorway journey is fragile. If you intend to observe from Marbella, Estepona or another western location, staying there before eclipse morning is safer than treating Málaga as a same-day launch point.
Exact site still matters
Municipal timings are a reference. Use exact coordinates for your final observation site and follow any temporary road, parking or emergency measures announced closer to the event.
